Lockdown Art 2

Sticking with the primate theme, my next painting was of a gorgeous gorilla. I used the same approach for this as I had with the Macaques, painting in a detailed face and keeping the body loose, encouraging the paint to spread, and the colours to mix.

As his eyes appeared I new he was going to be a strong character. The more I worked on him the more he began to represent the strength I was seeing around me in the daily fight against the virus.

I called this painting 'The Boss'. He is the exact opposite of the Macaque painting; where the Macaques are fragile and vulnerable he is strong and resilient. For me these paintings represent the two sides of life during this pandemic, and, though I didn't set out to paint a response, they do represent how I felt in those early days.
